Portalington is getting all braced up for a massive influx of tourists just prior to the arrival of the largest passenger cruise ship to anchor in the region.
Corio Bay of Geelong is too shallow to host the 294-metre-long Norwegian Jewel.
This cruise vessel would instead berth off the north-eastern tip of the Bellarine Peninsula on Tuesday. It was carrying 2400 passengers and 1069 crew members.
This 15-deck cruise vessel hosts four times as several travellers like the Seabourn Encore that was anchored in Geelong yesterday. John Rae who is the president of Portalington Business Development Association mentioned that the very concept of the cruise-related development is interesting mainly because they had never observed anything as great as this in the regional cruise industry.
The company has proved its commitment by creating a rand new $10 million ferry, a little more than a year after launching.
And the cruise vessel is known as Bellarine Express.
It had started operating as a daily Portalington-Docklands service last week. This town has also benefitted from the State Government’s $15 million safe harbor project that has placed in new ferry and boating infrastructure. Mr. Rae is not certain about the prospect of the town emerging as a regular destination for cruise ships. However he is eager enough to explore the various opportunities.
