Northern Ireland has been said to be one of the fastest growing tourism destinations for those visitors using Airbnb.

In the north last year, a record number of 230,000 tourists used the home sharing service, through which existing house owners make rooms available for others to rent.

The 2018 Airbnb UK Insights Report found that these visitors generated more than £300 million worth of income.

Between July 2017 and July 2018, a total of 230,000 Airbnb guests arrived in the north, compared to 132,000 for the same period the year before.

Hadi Moussa, Airbnb General Manager for Northern Europe said: “In the past year, British travellers have loved turning to their own backyard to take a break, seeking out holiday destinations where they can uncover hidden gems and enjoy truly unique experiences. With more people using Airbnb to explore Northern Ireland, we’ve helped visitors gain new experiences all over the country, spreading the benefits of tourism away from city centres to local communities and businesses.”
