An association of seven European specialist partners from France, Spain, Italy and The Netherlands has been selected to team up and deliver a new EU Shift2Rail Programme. Two 4SECURail teams have been formed to design a Computer Security Incident Response Team or CSIRT to create a joint EU-Rail cybersecurity system. These teams would also aim to make a Formal Methods Demonstrator for improved Railway Signaling Systems. The programme has been funded through Horizon 2020.
The 4SECURail syndicate will distribute tools and collaborative processes to coordinate cybersecurity response across European railways. In addition, the demonstrator would support better operations of signalling systems for railway safety, security and efficiency.
The engineering consulting firm Ardanauy Ingenieria, S.A, is co-coordinating with 4SECURail teams and working in collaboration with International Union of Railways or UIC, Tree Technology, Consiglio Nazionale Delle Ricerche or CNR, FIT Consulting, Hit Rail and SIRTI to develop the project.
The Shift2Rail European railway security initiative aspires to motivate focused Research and Innovation pertaining to integrate new and advanced technologies with the help of the Horizon 2020 funding. The 4SECURail project plan on ensuring correct behaviour, proper operability, safety for signalling systems as well as measures to organize collaborative Cyber Security Programs and support across Europe.
European railway industry’s IT specialist, Hit Rail B.V will work with UIC and Tree Technology to provide the co-designing and testing of the model. They also aim to deliver a collaboration platform for CSIRT. This team would be coordinating Cyber Security response actions of separate railway security teams. Meanwhile, CNR, Ardanuy, FIT Consulting and SIRTI will work to present a demonstrator for evaluation.
